The Purpose Driven Stimulus Package

In his first weekly YouTube address as president, Barack Obama outlines the Administration's plan for the forthcoming stimulus package which he hopes will be signed into law within a month.

From the Whitehouse.gov website:

"(T)he plan will update our electric grid by laying more than 3,000 miles of transmission lines; weatherize 2.5 million homes; protect health insurance for more than 8 million Americans in danger of losing their coverage; secure 90 major ports; renovate 10,000 schools; and triple the number of science fellowships."

He forgot to mention that white males would not be part of that stimulus package. Racism we can believe in...

Thanks for your post rjjrdg. I started to dismiss the comment out of hand as just another angry white guy singin' the blues about the end of white patronage, but just before my finger descended on the delete key, I though it would be best left as an artifact. You see, many people don't believe your mindset exists any more. Sure, you're in the extreme minority now, but some in the media would have us believe that we're living in a colorblind society. Your comment is a testimony that racism does indeed still exist, but to find it you may have to look in a mirror.

Or are you telegraphing a boycott by white men on taking jobs in the new green economy? Indeed it may be a de facto boycott if white males entrench themselves in the old paradigm of "slash and burn" at the expense of the planet. Those who refuse to respond to the climate crisis at hand - now that we have a real leader at the helm - will surely drown in the title wave generated by those who are creating positive change. That holds true no matter the skin color.

By the way, I am a white male, and I'm surfing atop this first green wave.

You took what I said as racist and not what Reich said? Interesting how the mind works...

It's okay to be white. You don't have to feel guilty. You did nothing wrong...

It's interesting that Obama's "Purpose Driven Stimulus Package" is a takeoff on the book by Obama's new best friend (I use that term tounge-in-cheek). I.e., I'm referring to the Pastor Rick Warren's book "The Purpose Driven Life" that condemns one to hell if he doesn't accept "the Lord Jesus Christ" as the Son of God and as one's only Saviour! The book was given to me as gift about 3 years ago, but I had to eventually put in down in disgust. Obviously Obama didn't preview the book before he chose the title of his web article about the stimulus package.

Looks like my title for the post might have been too cheeky by half.

I actually received the book as a "gift" once but never read it. Partly because of the giver. Partly because of the undercurrent, nay - tsunami - of heavy salvationist judgment.

I grew up Southern Baptist. Church 2-4 times a week. I ran into trouble with the higher-ups after I started reading and taking to heart the message of Jesus.

'Do not attack your enemies, love them.'

'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.'

'You reap what you sow.'

'Associate with everybody.'

'God is love.'

'Give to those who need your help.'

And, in a gleaming tower of irony, 'Do not judge people lest ye be judged.'

(Can't help throwing in some of the King's English - it takes me back to my childhood.)

I started asking questions about why church leaders advocated political policies and ethics that Jesus Christ - the guy who they named the religion after - condemned: war, racism, sexism, homophobia, hate, and most of all JUDGEMENT.
